    October 03 2023

Roland DG Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters worldwide, is pleased to announce today the start of a collaborative project for customised notebooks with MOLESKINE Japan.

MOLESKINE was created as a brand in 1997, bringing back to life the nameless black notebooks used by writers and artists like Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin that had long gone out of print. Today, the Moleskine brand encompasses a family of objects that enhance productivity and creativity including notebooks, diaries, and planners, journals, bags, writing instruments, reading accessories, publishing, and digital tools.

Roland DG is collaborating with MOLESKINE Japan on two projects

The first is a customisation service at MOLESKINE's directly managed store, which will open on Wednesday, September 27 in the Kobe Hankyu Department Store. The LEF2-200 benchtop UV printer will be used for in-store printing.

The second is the production of premium notebooks to be sold at the "Panta Rhei – For as long as the world turns," a museum exhibition of Yukimasa Ida to be held at the Kyocera Museum of Art in Kyoto from Saturday, September 30. The uniquely energetic artwork by Mr. Ida will be reproduced with our  large-format VersaOBJECT CO-series UV printer.

Mr. Toru Kimeda, General Manager of Moleskine Japan, said, "The Moleskine Store in Kobe will be the first directly managed store in the Kansai region of Japan. We decided to run the in-store customisation service in order to provide our customers with an experience of unparalleled excitement. Customers will be able to freely design and combine multiple motifs taken from artworks by Yukimasa Ida, one of Japan's leading up-and-coming artists today, and have their notebooks printed right in front of them. In addition, at the Kyocera Museum of Art exhibition, End of today - 2/21/2023 Mask – (2023) and End of today - 1/16/2022 African Mask - (2022), the End of Today series will be printed on notebooks and sold in limited quantities."

“This project required a printer that could meet various requirements, such as a wide colour gamut, highly detailed expression, direct printing on thick notebooks, and ease of operation in stores," Mr. Kimeda continued. “We felt that a partnership with Roland DG was the perfect fit."

Mr. Yukimasa Ida said, "When I first saw the printed samples, I was impressed by the vividness that exceeded my imagination. I’m very happy that more people can enjoy my work by using this kind of digital technology.”

Tony Miller, General Manager of Roland DG Global Sales and Marketing Division, said, "MOLESKINE offers tools and services that help people be more creative, and we feel this collaboration has special significance because we have so much in common with a company that values people's creativity in the same way we do.  It is also a great honour for us to work with an artist who is leading the Japanese contemporary art scene with his unique artwork. We are proud that our UV printers have been chosen by people who have a strict eye for expression. We hope that many people will visit the MOLESKINE shop and art exhibition to experience the excitement.”

    September 26 2023

Durst Group, manufacturer of advanced digital printing and production solutions, has acquired Aleph SrL, a pioneer in sustainable digital solutions for textiles and interior and exterior decorations. With this strategic move, Durst Group further enhances its position in water-based and sustainable printing technologies. For Durst Group, the acquisition also serves as a bridge to Como, Italy, the center for textile design and high-quality applications.

Established in 2000 in Lurate Caccivio (Como), over the last 20 years, Aleph has transitioned from a software house and distributor of textile consumables to an independent manufacturer of innovative machines for digital water-based printing. In 2017, Wise Equity entered Aleph's capital with the Wisequity IV fund, alongside the three historical entrepreneurs Alessandro Manes, Roberto Manes, and Roberto Temperini, to support the progressive internationalization journey, with the goal of positioning itself in special applications in both the textile industry and adjacent sectors such as billboard printing. Today, the company generates over 60% of its revenue abroad in more than 20 countries.

"We are delighted to welcome Aleph into the Durst family," said Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of Durst Group. "Their expertise in sustainable, water-based applications, their software for high-end textiles, and their creative solutions for water-based poster printing align perfectly with our vision of pushing the boundaries of digital printing technology. Together, we will strengthen our market position, expand our product portfolio, and enhance value for our global customers."

In recent years, markets for digital printing technologies with water-based ink applications have experienced rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for environmentally friendly and customizable products. To meet this market trend, not only high-performance printing systems with eco-friendly ink systems are necessary but also extensive process knowledge and integrated software solutions, which both companies aim to combine optimally through this merger.

"Collaborating with Durst Group marks an exciting new chapter for Aleph," said Alessandro Manes, CEO of Aleph SrL. "Our shared passion for technological innovation, the pursuit of excellence, and the commitment to true sustainability define this collaboration. Together, we have the opportunity to make significant advancements in the digital textiles, exterior, and interior decoration sectors."

"We are very proud to have accompanied Aleph during these years of transformation from a distributor to a machinery manufacturer,” says Valentina Franceschini, Senior Partner at Wise Equity. “today among the leaders in sustainable innovation, Aleph has achieved significant goals in terms of organization, product range, and technological development, and we are confident that Durst represents the ideal partner to continue the growth journey."

The strategic acquisition aims to leverage synergies between the two companies by combining Durst Group's global presence and extensive procurement network with Aleph's expertise in sustainable digital solutions – both machines and software – for textiles and decoration. This seamlessly aligns with Durst Group's strategy to diversify its portfolio and meet the evolving needs of its customers across various industries.

Both Durst Group and Aleph are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for their customers, partners, and employees during the integration process.

    September 19 2023

Grant Thornton has released its 2023 Manufacturing Benchmarking Report, analysing the financial data from 100 Australian mid-sized manufacturers and tracking their performance during FY23 to provide a unique view of the Australian Manufacturing sector.

The Report has revealed positive trends in 2023, with a 6.7 per cent year-on-year average sales growth. This is attributable to increased capital expenditure and investing into emerging technologies, particularly for businesses with revenue over $100m whose scale has supported ongoing growth and success.

“While Australia’s manufacturing sector is still navigating disruption and will be for some time, opportunities for growth and development are on the horizon,” said Michael Climpson, National Head of Manufacturing at Grant Thornton.

“While this is positive, there is still much work to be done and the Government’s continued support in the sector with initiatives such as the National Reconstruction Fund, R&D Tax incentive, and state-driven programs will continue to empower mid-sized manufacturers to deliver on growth ambitions and strengthen our domestic capabilities,” continued Michael Climpson.

According to the data, the financial impact of the initial COVID-19 outbreak has been fully recovered in the sector, highlighting that we’re witnessing the first emerging results of both government investment in sovereign manufacturing, the resilience of the industry and a willingness to do things differently.

The data shows an increase in all market sizes, with the greatest increase in the $40m-$100m category, which was the manufacturing category impacted the most by COVID-19.

Like other industries, inflation is easing but remains at elevated levels, suggesting ongoing high sales growth for 2023/2024 could be expected.

However, headwinds including rising costs, inflationary pressures, and disruptions in supply chains have impacted cash flows, mainly for manufacturers with a turnover under $40m. To manage this, the Report highlights affected manufacturers have turned to new and emerging technologies and invested in sustainability measures to remain profitable.

** Research methodology of the Grant Thornton 2022 Manufacturing Benchmarking Report

Grant Thornton used a sample of 100 Australian mid-sized manufacturers to create the 2022 Manufacturing Benchmarking Report. The data is largely extracted from audited financial statements, the majority being Grant Thornton clients. The analysis can include an element of judgement applied, including normalising out of the averages any major outliers. For the purposes of this report, mid-sized manufacturers generally have an annual turnover of $20 million - $600 million.

For further details on the findings please see our media release attached and click here to access the 2023 Manufacturing Benchmarking Report.

    September 19 2023

LIA Victoria has achieved a major coup, announcing that its next Technical Event on the evening of 12 October will be held at one of the most tightly-guarded print sites in Australia, Note Printing Australia in Craigieburn.

The high-security plant, which produces bank notes for Australia and a host of other countries, as well as passports and certificates for births, deaths and marriages, is opening its doors to LIA Members for a tour and presentation.

Tickets to the event are expected to be highly sought-after, with LIA Members entitled to attend completely free of charge, and those yet to join being asked to contribute just $30 for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Numbers will be strictly limited, so those interested are encouraged to enquire or reserve your place without delay by contacting Jenny Berry at vic@lia.com.au.

It’s just the latest move by the state chapter of LIA, which continues to grow from strength to strength since it relaunched post-COVID.

Since 2022, it has held a regular program of events including technical evenings at Southern Impact, Fujifilm Business Innovation and Ball & Doggett, conducted the industry’s Graduate of the Year program with one of the State finalists taking out national honours, and has participated in PacPrint in Melbourne last year and Visual Impact Sydney earlier in 2023.

Robert Black, President of LIA Victoria, says it’s been an exciting time for the association’s committee – but now, they are calling for ‘all people in print’ to show their support by renewing their membership.

“We have been very fortunate to have received seed funding to reestablish LIA Victoria after a pandemic-induced hiatus,” Black says, “but to be sustainable into the future, we need the people of the print and wider graphic communications sector to show their support by joining as members and, if possible, by considering sponsoring our activities.

“Membership to the association is very cost-effective at just $45 per annum for individuals and $120 for companies, and the funds raised through memberships and sponsorships will be invested back into the industry to provide these technical and networking events, and to support the leaders of the future.”

Those interested in joining LIA Victoria should fill out the LIA Membership form here and return to vic@lia.com.au or to find out more about membership and sponsorship opportunities, download a full Membership & Sponsorship Brochure here

  • + Currie Group & Canon Production Printing Australia partner on Large Format Graphics

    September 06 2023

Currie Group and Canon Production Printing Australia have announced a new partnership which will see the well-known supplier add the Canon Arizona and Colorado M-Series printer ranges to its growing portfolio of solutions for the commercial print, and sign and display print sectors.

The announcement, made this morning, expands Canon Production Printing’s reach in the market to keep up with demand for the popular printers, while ideally complementing Currie Group’s existing range of products for these sectors.

Rob Mesaros, CEO of Currie Group, says the new partnership is just the latest step in the company’s ongoing process of modernisation, as it continues to grow and meet customer needs with new solutions that help drive success in evolving market sectors.

“Currie Group has a long history of transformation which has kept us one step ahead of market trends, and we’ve continued to transition in recent times based on the same principles which have served the company so well over more than 70 years – agility and an appetite for pragmatic risk taking, based on strong market knowledge and careful planning,” Mesaros says.

“Channel partnerships with Tier 1 OEMs have been a cornerstone of our strategy, and we are delighted to announce this new partnership with Canon Production Printing, who are such a well-respected market leader, and to add these innovative technologies to our sign and display product portfolio.”

Craig Nethercott, Managing Director, Canon Production Printing Oceania, says “Currie Group is a recognised leader across the print industry and we are excited to welcome them onboard as our latest strategic partner in the region.’’

“This new partnership is aimed at supporting our growth ambitions within the large-format graphics sector by expanding our reach in the market.”

“The award-winning Canon Arizona flatbed and Colorado M-Series product ranges have been hugely successful in both global and local markets. The innovative technology incorporated into the Canon Large Format Graphics product portfolio will enable Currie Group to offer a diverse range of application possibilities to their customers.”

Paul Whitehead, Business Unit Manager – Sign & Display for Currie Group, says his company is in a unique position in the market, with strong reach not only into the large format sign and display sector, but also into general commercial print. The new additions to the company’s product range, he says, will benefit both.

“Market demand across both those sectors is constantly evolving, with diversification driving new applications for print service providers of all kinds. With the addition of the Canon Production Printing products to our portfolio, we are now well-placed to meet all those requirements,” he points out.

“The new Colorado M-series opens up the 1.6m space for roll-to-roll applications, providing segment leading productivity thanks to its market-leading UVgel technology, and the award-winning Arizona family which is the most sold range of mid-volume UV flatbed printers – fills another gap in our portfolio by providing us with dedicated solutions for rigid media.”

“Combining this with our existing portfolio now gives us the broadest, most complete portfolio of large format solutions for the production and industrial space in the market – backed, of course, by the expertise from both the Canon team and our own product specialists, and our extensive national service and support network.”

Both printer ranges will be available to order from Currie Group with immediate effect, confirms Josh Konrad, GM Customer Support Services, Canon Production Printing Oceania.

“The onboarding of Currie Group as a partner has commenced, given the existing skills and experience of both service and support organisations, the learning curve is expected to be minimal and will see Currie Group operational quickly,” he says.

“We are looking forward to supporting them as they continue to grow in the Large Format Graphics market.”

While improving access for these market-leading products is the ultimate purpose of the partnership, the fundamentals behind the match actually goes deeper, with both organisations noting that they share the same philosophy and principles when it comes to delivering exceptional service to customers.

“Both Currie Group and Canon Production Printing have enviable relationships with our customers, based on product innovation and excellence, and a real commitment to strong services support. That shared ethos and approach provides a strong foundation for our partnership going forward,” Mesaros says.

“This partnership with Canon Production Printing adds value to both our businesses, and should give our customers even greater confidence in the ability of our people, and our products, to help them drive success as the market continues to evolve.”

    August 29 2023

Epson and its subsidiary company Epson X Investment Corporation (EXI) have invested in startup company AI Silk Corporation through a joint fund, the EP-GB Investment Limited Partnership. Sendai-based AI Silk, a startup that spun out of Tohoku University, develops and manufactures a high-performance conductive textile called LEAD SKIN®.

Conductive textiles have been used as materials for automotive parts and wearable devices in applications such as biological measurement and EMS1. However, there have been a number of issues. Sensing accuracy can be affected by conductive resistance. The feel and changes in properties (rust) can affect comfort and safety. There have also been issues in terms of manufacturing cost and durability.

LEAD SKIN®, a high-performance conductive textile developed and manufactured by AI Silk, solves these issues.

AI Silk has succeeded in making a variety of materials conductive, including silk, polyester, nonwoven fabrics and suede. This was achieved by dramatically improving the manufacturing process by adopting a proprietary conductive polymer coating technology based on technology invented at Tohoku University. This technology improves sensing accuracy by reducing conductive resistance. It also improves the feel, texture, comfort, and durability of the textile while also reducing manufacturing costs.

AI Silk intends to use this third-party allotment of shares to expand volume production of LEAD SKIN®. The company plans to expand beyond Japan and to sell LEAD SILK® as a material to meet the growing global demand for automotive parts and wearable devices such as EMS products. It is also considering expanding into the medical field.

Epson aims to give people lifestyle choices and enable them to live enriched lifestyles founded on physical and mental well-being. Epson decided to invest in AI Silk because it sees LEAD SKIN® as an interface technology for converting biological data captured through daily life into new value.

Going forward, Epson will help to achieve a sustainable society by creating a variety of partnerships and synergies based on its proprietary technologies, products, and services.

1 EMS: Electrical muscle stimulation. The elicitation of muscle contractions using small electric impulses in the expectation of the same type of effect as strength training.

    August 15 2023

Epson and its subsidiary Epson X Investment Corporation (EXI) have made an additional investment in GITAI, a startup company that develops general-purpose space robots.

GITAI is a startup that envisions providing safe and affordable labour in space. Their goal is to develop and sell versatile space robots that will serve as a workforce for tasks both inside and outside space stations, in Earth's orbit, as well as on the Moon and Mars. Additionally, they aim to provide services in space.

With the acceleration of space development, including lunar resource development, Mars exploration, and the commercialisation of the International Space Station (ISS), a rapid increase in various types of work within space is anticipated, such as the construction of new space stations, lunar bases, and Mars bases. This work is potentially dangerous and is currently being performed by astronauts, who must be trained and transported at tremendous expense.

GITAI is developing general-purpose robots that can significantly reduce the risk and burden on astronauts while also dramatically reducing the overall cost of transportation and training associated with space labour. By doing so, GITAI aims to make space exploration and development both safe and affordable. Since 2021, they have been steadily building a strong track record by developing lunar work robots and extravehicular robots, as well as by successfully completing on-board experiments using demonstration models on the ISS.

As outlined in the Epson 25 Renewed corporate vision, Epson aims to drive manufacturing innovation by co-creating flexible, high-throughput production systems that reduce environmental impacts. GITAI's space robot technology has potential applications in Epson's robotics business and has proven to be competitive in the expanding space business market.

The company continues to forge growth with its strong technical and organisation capabilities. Recognising its impressive track record and the significant technological advancements it has achieved, Epson decided to follow up its initial investment in 2021 with this additional investment.

Going forward, Epson will help to achieve a sustainable society by creating a variety of partnerships and synergies based on its proprietary technologies, products, and services.

    August 01 2023

Sarah Moore has been promoted to General Manager for Visual Connections, stepping into the role at an exciting time for the supplier association.

Sarah has been with Visual Connections for more than 15 years, joining the association in 2008 as Events Manager. In early 2019, she was appointed Business Development Manager, working with the Sydney-based team to develop new business opportunities as well as deliver on its member services.

Peter Harper, CEO, says Sarah has contributed significantly to the organisation’s success, and will now oversee the whole team and lead all Visual Connections initiatives going forward.

“As an organisation, we are excited by the challenges presented by today’s market, and we are very pleased that Sarah has agreed to step into this newly-created role to help lead the organisation as we seek to deliver on our promises to members and to support and contribute to a sustainable future for the print, sign and graphics sector,” he said.

“Sarah has many years of event management experience, both in our industry and in others prior to joining Visual Connections. She has been instrumental in the success of events including PacPrint, PrintEx, Visual Impact and the Label & Packaging Expo, among others, and more recently has excelled in her business development role, working closely with our Board and members to create new opportunities and deliver on our vision and values.

“The success of recent exhibitions and other initiatives puts Visual Connections in a strong position and we are excited by the many potential opportunities we are exploring for the future. Capitalising on those opportunities will require strong leadership, and we are confident Sarah will shine in her new role and continue to brilliantly represent Visual Connections.

“The Board, and the Visual Connections team, congratulate Sarah on her new role and wish her every success in the future.”

Visual Connections is the association representing suppliers to the print, signage, graphic arts and visual communications industries. It was formed in 2005 through the merger of the Graphic Arts Merchants Association of Australia (GAMAA) and the Visual Industries Suppliers Association (VISA).  As well as providing a suite of services and resources for its members, the organisation has the industry’s largest portfolio of events, including industry expos, awards and educational initiatives, and represents the supplier voice at an industry level on key issues affecting the industry.

SBS-E Certification allows Scodix embellished products to use recycling symbol where relevant

Scodix, Israel – Scodix, the leading provider of digital embellishment solutions for the graphic arts industry, announces the successful completion of its latest recyclability tests, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability. The results demonstrate that Scodix embellishments can be repulped during the recycling process, allowing products enhanced with Scodix embellishments to carry the recyclable symbol.

Scodix EVP Global Sales & Marketing, Mark Nixon, comments, “Sustainability is a core pillar of our business operations. As such, we are thrilled to share our latest test results which underscore the positive impact Scodix products can have on building a more sustainable future. With our repulpability and recyclability certification coupled with our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) findings, Scodix users can confidently embrace data-driven sustainability practices.

FTC guidelines require third party independent testing to allow manufacturers to use a recyclable symbol. Scodix worked with Western Michigan University (WMU) to implement the SBS Equivalency (WMU SBS-E) testing protocol, which models the Fiber Boxboard Associations (FBA) wax coating replacement protocol.

The testing was performed on 16pt SBS Printkote C1S paper with a fifteen percent coverage. Sheets were taken through the process of repulping, screening and cleaning to ensure that the digital embellishment would not inhibit the recycling process.

The tests produced positive results showcasing the recyclability of Scodix digitally embellished sheets. Passing the WMU SBS-E protocol proved that sheets with Scodix embellishment would qualify for recycling and could be repulped during the process. Brands and manufacturers using Scodix embellishment under this control protocol are able to use the FTC recycling symbol as long as the substrate used is also certified as recyclable.

"Today is a momentous day for Scodix, but our journey towards sustainability doesn't end here," affirms Nixon. " Coupled with the commissioned LCA that clearly states that Scodix is over 7 times less harmful to the environment than the traditional foiling process, we believe the time is now to remain steadfast in our commitment to driving continuous improvements in sustainability - equipping manufacturers with the necessary data to accurately measure their processes."

  • Meteor Inkjet Ltd, leading supplier of electronics, software, tools and services for industrial inkjet, has been granted a US patent for “Methods and Systems for Shell Formation in 3D Printing” (United States Patent No. 11,625,902) by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Exploiting the powerful greyscale capability of inkjet, Meteor’s patented ShellPro™ technology offers step-function savings in the energy and materials required to create complex 3D structures through binder jetting.  Meteor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hybrid Software Group PLC (Euronext:  HYSG), a leading developer of technology solutions at the heart of industrial printing.

Binder jet 3D printing often requires the use of multiple structural constituents with different material densities, one structure of which can be a shell forming the external surface of an object.  For strength, this outer shell is typically made up of higher density material than that used in the interior of the object.  Meteor’s patented ShellPro technology takes the pain out of creating this shell through a novel technique that capitalises on the multiple drop size capability of greyscale industrial inkjet printheads.  Additionally, ShellPro can automatically reduce shell thickness for small features on a printed object resulting in improved dimensional accuracy.  ShellPro is included as a standard feature in Meteor’s Met3D software.  Met3D provides a straightforward method to convert 3D CAD files such as STL or OBJ to rasterised vector files that inkjet printers can understand.

Ken Hillier, Meteor’s Director of North America and the patent’s primary inventor, explains, “This innovation offers the potential for additive manufacturing print systems to use as much as 50% less binder fluid, reduce the energy needed for curing and create 3D objects faster, all without sacrificing quality. Clive Ayling, Meteor’s Managing Director, adds, “Meteor continues to undertake basic research to find and develop ways to improve the functionality, cost, quality and reliability of the industrial inkjet printing process.  We are delighted that this invention has been recognised with a US patent and are confident that our ongoing investment in technological innovation will directly benefit not only our OEM customers but also the industry.”

  • The Agfa-Gevaert Group has successfully completed the sale of its Offset Solutions division to the alternative investment firm AURELIUS Group.

Under the terms of the share purchase agreement with AURELIUS Group, the Agfa-Gevaert Group will continue to provide certain consumables (including film) and services to its former division.

“The sale of our Offset Solutions division is an important step in our transformation journey. I want to thank all Offset Solutions employees for their professionalism, dedication and loyalty over the years and wish them all the best in the future. I am confident that with AURELIUS, they will continue a track record of innovation and leadership. In turn, this transaction will allow Agfa to focus on other growing market segments, which is crucial for our future success,” said Pascal Juéry, President and CEO of the Agfa-Gevaert Group.

  • Andrea Trumble, Marketing Manager for Pozitive Sign & Graphics Supplies, has been appointed to the Visual Connections Board bringing a wealth of expertise in everything from industrial design and engineering, to events, account management and marketing, to her new role.

Trumble, who was voted onto the Board at its last meeting, replaces Jeremy Brew from HP, who stepped down recently due to other commitments.

Announcing the appointment, Visual Connections President John Wall said the appointment was a positive one.

“Andrea’s appointment adds someone with an impressive depth of knowledge, and helps maintain the balance between print, sign and display suppliers, as well as between global players and the smaller, family-owned businesses who make up such an important part of our industry,” he said.

Trumble, who has had a long connection with Visual Connections through her role in events like PacPrint and Visual Impact for Pozitive and others, says she is delighted to join the supplier association in this capacity.

“I have always believed that having a strong, representative voice at association level is vitally important, for both industry businesses and for suppliers,” she says.

“As someone who has been involved in this diverse sector for many years, I have seen and appreciated the work Visual Connections has done with expos, events and education – a subject which I consider particularly important – and the way they cooperate so closely with other industry associations to drive benefits for both suppliers and consumers.

“I look forward to working with the Board and the operational team to continue that united front, in the strong belief that working together on projects which benefit all is the best way to build a strong and successful industry into the future.”

Wall said the evolution of the Board continued to ensure fair and diverse representation, and new members were always welcomed for their new ideas and perspectives.

“We are fortunate to be able to attract such a high calibre of people to our Board, and to benefit from their expertise and insights,” he said. “We thank Jeremy most sincerely for his contribution to the Board and to Visual Connections over his term, and are very much looking forward to Andrea’s input at this strategic level.”

  • The DTO (direct to object) market continues to innovate, and these new effects and textures will open up new, higher margin business opportunities for Mutoh VerteLith users.

MUTOH, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers, affiliated with MUTOH HOLDINGS CO., LTD. has today announced the release of "Embossed Print Environment (pre-set files)" for MUTOH genuine RIP software VerteLith, and the Texture Library (Adobe® Illustrator file) optimized for embossed printing for users of UV LED flatbed printers, XPJ-461UF and XPJ-661UF. The service is available in MUTOH Club, a website exclusively for MUTOH users.

Embossed printing (thick layered print) with varnish ink on the UV printers can be set up simply by loading the Print Environment (pre-set) into VerteLith. Six different surface texture combinations are available with three varying thickness levels with a gloss finish and three varying thickness levels with a matte finish.

The MUTOH Texture Library, in combination with the Embossed Print Environment, provides texture patterns that are ideal for decorative printing of goods and other items with 2.5D texture, in addition to flat designs.

Simply Load ThePre-Registered Print Environment to Complete Setup

The MUTOH UV LED printers, XPJ-461UF and XPJ-661UF, are equipped with "UV LED Lamp Local Dimming Control Technology" that enables fine adjustment of printed surface texture by controlling UV LED lamp irradiation. In order to achieve a gloss or matte finish, the irradiation parameters of the UV LED lamps must be fine-tuned according to the purpose.

The MUTOH genuine RIP software VerteLith can pre-register complex settings including irradiation parameters as print environments, which can then be exported and imported. MUTOH has now created the Print Environment in which the settings necessary for embossed printing are registered. Users simply download this Print Environment from the MUTOH Club and load it into VerteLith to complete the embossed print settings.

Textured Patterns Ideal for Embossed Print

MUTOH has prepared 100 different texture patterns for embossed prints, which can be used as patterns in Adobe Illustrator. By printing texture of 2.5D on goods and other items, you can add value of not only seeing but also touching them.

  • New AM-Series fully commits to sustainable Heat-Free inkjet technology

Furthering its commitment to sustainability, Epson has launched the most seriously sustainable, feature-rich range of business colour copiers in its history – the WorkForce Enterprise AM-Series - all of which have its award-winning, patented Piezo Heat-Free inkjet technology at their core.

The new 40-60ppm multi-function devices bring Epson’s most successful static line-head technology to the mass market enhancing the company’s offering and ensuring end users have the best product fit while still addressing and staying true to the company’s sustainability agenda.

Inkjet technology uses one quarter of the energy compared to laser1 and with a compact footprint and a lightweight design, these products help limit resources used during production and shipping. This reduced size also means they easily integrate into any office and save on space. High yield ink cartridges also reduce material usage, office disruptions, shipping, storage and end-user management of consumables.

The new WorkForce Enterprise AM-Series represents a significant shift in Epson’s printing strategy, fully supporting the company’s commitment to sustainability and coincides with Epson’s recent announcement of its ¥100 billion (AUD$1 billion) investment into sustainable innovation.

The launch of these products accentuates laser technology’s limited ability to make significant steps towards improved sustainability due to its ongoing requirement for heat during the print process and relative increased energy use.

This combined with fewer moving and consumable parts to replace over the lifetime of the printer compared to lasers, also means service and maintenance needs of Epson inkjets are substantially reduced, along with resulting printer downtime improving productivity and user satisfaction.

The new WorkForce Enterprise AM-Series now completes Epson’s business inkjet line up from small workgroup units to high-speed production machines – meaning that no matter the business function or print demand, there is a product that suits.

With a full range of support from Managed Print Service and Print Admin packages through to Remote Service solutions, these products truly enable a low maintenance, high quality, reliable, sustainable print system.
