Inaugural Sydney Paint Jam meetup over the weekend of the 25-26th March gathered together a small but energetic group of 12 signwriters. The attendees were mostly local Sydneysiders but also included interstate visitors from Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Hosted by Emiel Saada of Studio Mielo (
www.mielo.com.au) in Enmore. The area is a hotspot for hand-painted signage and murals – the perfect location for getting some inspiration while out for lunch.
Despite the event being steered towards being a laidback weekend meet, a few attendees couldn’t help themselves and bashed out a production line worth of panels. Some of said panels were kept, swapped and a bunch left behind that now adorn the walls of Studio Mielo.
Event organiser Ryan Donnelly of Alltype'sa Signs said, “I’ve been lucky enough to get to a few signwriting meets in Australia and around the world over the past few years. It inspired me to put together something in Sydney, teaming up with Studio Mielo meant the event could be held in an active workshop which really added to the atmosphere. I’m really happy with how the event turned out, and it was great to have sponsors on board encouraging the thriving hand-painted signwriting scene in Sydney.”
The event garnered positive feedback from attendees such as Killing Time Studio, Melbourne. He said, “met so many likeminded creatives, young and old. All good vibes and nothing to prove. Just a good old fashioned get together to talk shop and swap tips, tricks and yarns over a few beers.”
