The Nix Spectro 2 is a full-featured, portable spectrophotometer that will revolutionise the paints and coatings industry. Finally, custom paint formulations can be performed at front-of-the-counter or outside of the store with the full accuracy of a benchtop.

Hamilton, Ontario: Nix Sensor Ltd., a technology-based company that designs, manufactures, and retails high-precision sensing technology, such as the award-winning Nix Mini, announced today the launch of the Nix Spectro 2. A professional-grade, accessible, and cost-effective spectrophotometer that offers a new way for industry professionals to capture and communicate spectral data.

“The product development and engineering teams at Nix have been listening closely to the needs of our customers around the world and the message is clear; paint matching and custom formulation must be brought to the masses, especially in the COVID-19 era. Brands must also extend outside of their traditional retail settings if they want to stay competitive. To accomplish this, we needed to build a device that is not only portable, durable, and accurate, but most importantly, easy to use. I am proud to say that we have achieved all of these goals and more with the Spectro 2. I’m excited to see how this technology will once again revolutionize the retail/online paint experience.”

    - Matthew Sheridan – CEO/Founder of Nix Sensor Ltd.

The Nix Spectro 2 is the only portable spectrophotometer of its kind to capture spectral data across 31 channels (10nm bins over 400-700nm) while being durable enough to be used on a job site and easy enough to be directly used by a homeowner.

Smaller than a tennis ball, but made from solid aluminium, the Nix Spectro 2’s innovative portability will quickly usher in a new era of “on-site” color matches, formulation, and color communication. Accelerated by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and by software tools like Nix Sensor Ltd.’s Paint With CHIP app (paintwithchip.com), we expect the disruption of the traditional retail paint model to continue to accelerate throughout 2021 and beyond.

The Nix Spectro 2 is launching Spring 2021 and a pre-order signup to receive 25% off is available for a limited time at nixsensor.com/nix-spectro-2/.

  • + ELEVATE EFFICIENCY AND ACCELERATE GROWTH WITH THE NEW CANON COLORSTREAM 8000 SERIES

Canon Production Printing Australia have announced the ColorStream 8000 series of continuous feed inkjet printers, setting a new standard for high volume production environments.

    May 31 2021

Canon Production Printing Australia have announced the ColorStream 8000 series of continuous feed inkjet printers, setting a new standard for high volume production environments.

An addition to the market-leading ColorStream family, the new flagship represents the next stage in the evolution of the platform with its combined advances in productivity, print quality and application flexibility.

Built on a decade of continuous innovation in response to customer feedback, the ColorStream 8000 series has been designed to meet the current and future production challenges of corporate and public sector in-plants, print and communication service (transactional and direct mail) providers and specialised commercial printers, such as those producing books, manuals or pharmaceutical leaflets.

The series features new 1,200dpi printheads that yield a stunning and consistent print quality – even at the highest speed – from the first print to the last, reproducing smoother gradients, homogeneous tints and sharper detail, and minimising typical inkjet technology artefacts.

The ColorStream 8000 series also uses a new water-based pigment ink set with latex polymer, which delivers a very wide colour gamut that meets Fogra process standards, perfect droplet formation, and deep black and vibrant colours on uncoated paper without any pre-treatment.

Craig Nethercott, Managing Director, Canon Production Printing Oceania comments, “the 8000 series features advanced technology that takes the ColorStream to a new level of quality, efficiency and productivity.

“We now have the ability to produce more in less time, broaden application reach, explore new markets and grow profit streams.”

The ColorStream comprises two models, 8133 and 8160, representing the maximum print speed of each (133m/min and 160m/min). With print speeds of up to 2,152 A4 images/min (15 – 70 million A4 images per month), the ColorStream 8000 series is set to easily handle production peaks and reduce run and labour costs by consolidating volumes from offset and continuous feed toner presses onto the ColorStream.

Mr Nethercott continues, “the productivity of the series is further improved by the fact that everything that could be automated has been, making the series exceptionally easy to operate and freeing up operator time for other value-added activities. The many automated tasks add to the remarkable uptime (over 90%) of the ColorStream 8000 series, giving users a reliable solution they can really trust.”

The Proactive Maintenance available with the ColorStream 8000 series offers additional peace of mind in production planning by delivering predictive maintenance, enabling targeted machine downtimes for service and avoiding unpredicted downtimes during production.

Mr Nethercott adds, “in a fast-moving market, finding new applications can be crucial to staying competitive. The ColorStream 8000 series features an improved print quality and the ability to print on a wide variety of uncoated, recycled and inkjet treated papers from 40gsm to 160gsm as standard (and selected papers up to 220gsm). So now, print and communication service providers can now proactively respond to the challenges of today’s market and provide high quality promotional applications next to transactional, direct mail and book (mono and full colour) applications.

“This capability is enhanced by the design of the press’s paper path, which, with a maximum print width of 560mm, gives impositioning freedom to create outstanding promotional pieces and maximise book formats.”

    First ColorStream 8000 series customer

DATEV eG is the third largest provider of business software in Germany, one of the largest European IT service providers and the first Canon customer to install a ColorStream 8000 series printer.

The cooperative of tax consulting professionals supports a total of 2.5 million companies, self-employed persons, municipalities, associations and institutions, and manages the complete production of customers' business documents as a full-service provider.

Operating a high-performance, modern and highly secure Digital & Print Solution Centre (DPSC) in Nuremberg, it produces, on average, more than 1.1 billion pages per year, ranging from promotional and informative mailings to invoices and reminders to high-quality account statements and insurance policies.

Based on customer demand for the fastest ColorStream version, the ColorStream 8160 will be available from the date of launch, 25 of May, while the ColorStream 8133 will follow early in the second half of 2021. Both models will be available in mono and full-colour configurations.

Customers can see the new ColorStream 8000 series by requesting a virtual demo.

SureColor F10060H combines efficient high-speed production with outstanding image quality

Epson has announced a new 76-inch high speed dye sublimation printer with support for media up to 76” wide – the SureColor F10060H. This new model features a total of six ink lines including the traditional CYMK along with two more that can be configured for either Light Cyan (Lc) and Light Magenta (Lm) or Fluorescent Pink (Fp) and Fluorescent Yellow(Fy).

The CYMKLcLm configuration is aimed at customers who seek to produce premium quality output with maximum image quality. It enables more precise and accurate colour with fine gradation and reduced grain. It is particularly suited to output that include images of people, product and locations and environment. Skin colours are outstanding, equipment is vibrant and beaches, trees and skies look rich and captivating.

The FpFy configuration is aimed at customers producing sportswear, work and emergency clothing, merchandise and soft signage which require a fluorescent component.

Images produced with fluorescent ink are bright and intense with high reflectivity. While traditional dye sub printers only apply fluorescent inks as a spot colour, the SC-F10060H can also apply them as a continuous tone mixed with other colours to provide a full rainbow of brilliance.

The new printer features a total of six next generation PrecisionCore printheads, each with 3200 nozzles. The heads support Variable Sized Dot Technology (VSDT) and feature active inkless nozzle status monitoring. To ensure maximum image quality with minimum wastage the printer undertakes auto nozzle replacement and incorporates advanced self-cleaning.

The new printer supports production speeds up to 245m2/hr on rolls up to 1950mm (76”) wide and 60kg in weight. To ensure cost-effective operation it supports ultra-thin media, incorporates a high-precision auto-take-up and features a bulk ink system that holds up to 120L with dual storage and auto hot-swap.

Like its 4-colour siblings, the SureColor F10060H is a sophisticated, dye-sublimation machine for textile production aimed at high volume producers. It combines speed, efficiency and production-cost minimisation with the ability to produce superior output quality .

In the dye-sublimation sector, customers demand fast turnaround and reliable operation. They also expect consistent and accurate output. With these requirements in mind, Epson has developed a machine that sets new standards in terms of standards in quality, reliability and durability.

The SC-F10060H is designed for easy operation. It features a large 9” colour touch panel display and a transparent platen window with integrated lighting. Downloadable EMX profiles facilitate rapid set-up with common media types. An integrated RGB camera enables easy profile adjustment and fast configuration with new medias.

When developing the original 4-colour SC-F10060 and now the new 6-colour SC-F10060H, Epson carefully considered workflow. The printer can be loaded by single operator, care of an integrated media lifter and dual front and rear feed controls. It also features an industrial style signal lamp and an ink system with automatic hot swap. The SC-F10060H ships complete with Epson Edge Print and Edge Dashboard software and also supports a new service called Epson Cloud Solution PORT (ECSP) that enables detailed production monitoring and advanced status analysis.

As with all Epson Large Format Printers, the SC-F10060H is backed with a comprehensive service package that offers cover up to five years. The new ECSP system enables Epson to offer remote support and accelerated repair; problems can be directly analysed and service agents dispatched complete with appropriate parts.

To ensure maximum up-time, the optional User Self Replacement of printheads have been enabled, clearly demonstrating Epson has raised the benchmark for production equipment.

The SureColor F10060H is available for ordering now from authorised Epson Large Format fabric printing solutions resellers.

    May 31 2021

Epson has launched two new heat-free, cartridge-free premium EcoTank Photo models for creative enthusiasts. Perfect for keen amateur photographers, the wireless, multi-function EcoTank Photo ET-8500 and ET-8550 use 6 colour Epson Claria ET Premium inks, can print up to 2,300 high-quality photos or 6,700 pages in black and white or 6,200 pages in colour with one set of ink bottles1 at incredibly low running costs.

As these printers feature Epson’s patented Micro Piezo Heat-Free Technology, you can now enjoy consistent high-speed photo printing, with greatly reduced energy consumption and less need for replacement parts, helping to save time, money and the planet too.

Both new printers come with the new 6 colour Epson Claria ET Premium ink set to produce high-quality, long-lasting, borderless photos of up to A4 size with the ET-8500 and to A3+ with the ET-8550. The photo black and new photo grey ink makes it easy to achieve detailed, high-contrast black and white photos with beautiful toning, while the pigment black ink ensures sharp text when printing double-sided documents on plain paper. This makes these printers a fantastic choice for every task in your home.

Epson Australia MD, Craig Heckenberg, said, “These printers are great news for photographers, creative enthusiasts and the environment. They are our first heat-free, multi-function, EcoTank Photo printers to feature 6 colour Claria ET Premium Ink for delivering high quality photos, arts and crafts on a wide range of media. The low running costs and flexible convenience of cartridge-free printing make it ideal for everyday document printing the whole family can enjoy. The fact that they are heat-free means they use far less power than laser printers and are far better for the planet as a result.”

Amateur photographers and creative hobbyists will appreciate the highly flexible media handling capabilities of the two new printers. With five paper feeds there is no end to the creative projects these printers can deliver. Not only can you print directly onto suitable CDs and DVDs, you can also store photo size and A4 paper in the two front trays ensuring your printer is always loaded and ready to go. The rear tray allows you to print on media such as craft papers and card, even up to A3+ size with the ET-8550. Finally, the rear straight pass paper feed means you can print on cardstock and other speciality media up to 1.3 mm thick.

These new premium EcoTank Photoprinters join Epson’s award-winning line up of cartridge-free refillable ink tank printers which this year saw global sales reach 50 million units. They deliver ultra-low cost per page thanks to the EcoTank's innovative cartridge-free filling system with easy-to-use, mess-free bottles.

The ET-8500 and ET-8550 allow you to print thousands of high-quality photos and documents with one set of included ink bottles1 - equivalent to about 185 individual cartridges2 - and these prints can last up to 300 years when stored in an album³.

The ET-8500 and ET-8550 also enable printing from SD cards and USB flash drives through the large 4.3” colour touchscreen. With full Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Ethernet connectivity, integrating either of these printers with your existing home set-up is simple and straightforward.

The EcoTank ET-8500 and ET-8550 are available immediately from www.epson.com.au with an RRP of $999.00 and $1149.00 respectively.

    May 31 2021

Morgana Systems Ltd, Milton Keynes, a Plockmatic International company, announces the release of a new member of its DigiFold line-up, the DigiFold Pro XL creasing and folding machine.

The DigiFold Pro XL is the latest addition to the Morgana DigiFold family. The machine is developed from the well proven Morgana DigiFold Pro and is equipped with the latest version of the patented DynaCrease creasing system. The unit incorporates a suction feeder that handles stock sizes from 210mm to 1,300mm in length. The heavy-duty automatic creasing and folding system is designed to complement mid to high volume digital and offset production presses.

Morgana DigiFold Pro XL fits perfectly with the long-sheet capabilities of today’s production printers by featuring a pull-out extension that handles sheet sizes up to 1,300mm as standard. This opens the door to new applications, such as landscape booklet covers, book covers for oversized perfect bound books, multi-panel brochures, and the many other applications made possible by long sheet presses.

The DigiFold Pro XL is equipped with the latest version of Morgana’s DynaCrease, where the creasing blades can now be easily changed without the use of tools. An additional Static Crease option can be installed to enable different crease profiles to be applied in one pass, commonly used in the production of “hinge and spine” creases in book covers. Changing the Static Crease blade for a perforation tool will provide the full range of crease and perforation options, such as tear out coupons and reply cards.

Morgana’s DigiFold Pro XL can fold up to 6,000 A4 sheets per hour, and in crease-only mode it can produce up to 7,500 sheets per hour. The unit has a maximum loading capacity of 200mm.

The top-fed vacuum feeder ensures stable production for long runs. Morgana’s user-friendly operator panel allows for the simple input of sheet size, media type, and thickness. With this information the Pro XL can automatically set the speed, roller gap, and fan settings.

A unique air-knife system is used for sheet separation. Full cross perforation is available, plus up to five inline perforation/scoring wheels. The unit can produce up to 30 creases per sheet (Static Crease). It is equipped with both a belt-stacker for folded sheets and a delivery tray for crease only jobs.

The loading and unloading areas are an open design to make it easy to monitor performance and make changing from job to job fast and efficient. The new open feeder design is capable of efficiently feeding a wide range of media types and weights. It is equipped with automated vacuum feed technology, specifically designed to handle the widest range of pre-printed media.

Commenting on this latest addition to the Morgana range, Ray Hillhouse, VP Sales & Marketing said: “The Pro XL is an important addition because of its wide stock range. We work closely with the print engine manufacturers on several levels. All of them were pushing into longer sheet applications with their latest print engines. As well as opening up a new range of possibilities, we’ve made the DigiFold easier to operate and automated much of the feeder set-up with our new vacuum feeder.”

Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (Kongsberg PCS) has today announced the expansion of its C Series range of digital finishing tables with the launch of the compact new C20 – the smallest high-speed production table on the market.

Kongsberg_C20The new Kongsberg C20 packs all the professional features of the market-leading Kongsberg C Series – renowned for being the most productive cutting tables available - into a compact size of just 1.6m x 1.4m. While the C20 is the smallest in the Kongsberg C Series range, it retains all the same professional features and specifications as its bigger counterparts.

“We know that industrial manufacturers, as well as small sign shops, require a high-speed cutting table to keep up with the manufacturing process, but floorspace comes at a premium,” said Stuart Fox, President, Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems. “The high cost of owning or renting space is a serious problem for many in the sign and display market. With the new Kongsberg C20, there is no longer any need for those businesses to compromise on production and quality due to a lack of available space.”

State-of-the-art, rock-solid engineering ensures the Kongsberg C Series delivers the highest levels of performance. The cutting table utilizes aerospace technology, combining an aluminium composite tabletop, a rack and pinion drive system and dynamic table mapping, which together deliver the greatest cutting accuracy and consistency. Multiple tool combinations are available during production, and the tooling system includes a material thickness probe and an optional camera for registering printed and un-printed material.

“As with our entire C Series range, Kongsberg high performance tooling has been specifically developed to further increase throughput and quality for users,” added Stuart. “The Kongsberg C20 is an investment that will help drive the owner’s creativity and production to new levels.

“Achieving optimum performance from a significantly smaller footprint is a real game-changer for the sign and display market.”

Nazdar Ink Technologies has expanded its 130 Series of solvent inkjet inks with two new colours: Orange and Light Black. By enhancing the existing range of CMYK plus Light Cyan, and Light Magenta to include Orange and Light Black, Nazdar will enable end-users to deliver an enhanced range of colours and more accurate greyscale printing on graphics output.

Designed specifically for use in Mimaki Digital Printers using Mimaki SS21 Ink, the Nazdar 130 Series inks are closely colour-matched and chemically compatible with the original inks, saving users both time and money by switching one colour at a time. Flushing, purging, or re-profiling is not necessary when transitioning, due to the accurate colour reproduction capabilities of the ink set.

Suitable for multiple substrates including vinyl, banner material, blue back paper and backed mesh, the high-impact, high-intensity Nazdar 130 Series inks also have enhanced drying characteristics to accommodate faster print speeds.

On the new ink colour introductions, Stephen Woodall, Market Segment Manager – Aqueous & Solvent Digital at Nazdar, comments: “The Orange ink has been added to the range to ensure our end-user customers can achieve a wider, more vibrant colour gamut, while the new Light Black option will help deliver stunning monochrome images.

“All our inks are covered by one of the most comprehensive warranties in the market – covering the entire ink train – enabling businesses to confidently take advantage of the increased efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our fully field-tested solutions.”

Nazdar 130 Series Inks are designed for maximum outdoor resistance to colour fade and chemical attack caused by the combined effects of UV degradation and environmental pollution. Each colour is formulated with durable long-term outdoor pigments and – when used with proper colour management – colour variance of the original print density will be minimal over a period of 24 months for vertical outdoor exposure.

Roland DG Australia, a leading manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers and 3D devices, today announced a plan to assist QLD and NSW customers whose business has been affected by the current mice plague.

Roland DG would like to extend its best wishes to those who have been affected by the mouse plague that is ravaging regional parts of NSW and QLD. There have been a number of instances reported of mice chewing on electrical cables and customers wishing to have their Roland DG equipment checked by a technician to ensure it is ok and safe to use.

Damage to Roland DG equipment by mice and other rodents, can occur when they hide in areas that contain electrical wiring. Mice have an instinct to chew anything to keep their teeth from growing and can end up chewing on a range of materials, including cabling/wire, glass, plastic, rubber, wood, aluminium, rock and even cement.

If you do have issues with rodents in and around your workplace, ensure that you visually check your cabling prior to turning your Roland DG machine on. If you suspect that a rodent has entered your machinery or caused damage to the wiring, please contact the Support Team prior to operating your equipment.

    May 20 2021

Canon Production Printing Australia have today announced the Colorado 1630, a new modular addition to their portfolio of 64” UVgel roll-to-roll printers.

The industrial grade printer is said to be a smart investment choice for large format graphic providers such as sign makers, PSPs and in-house printers producing smaller volumes by giving them access to all the proven advantages of UVgel technology, at a lower investment level.

The Colorado 1630 delivers superior print quality of 1,800 dpi and highly durable, odourless and instantly dry prints on a wide range of media. In its fastest print mode, for applications such as outdoor banners and billboards, the Colorado 1630 can attain a maximum print speed of 111 m²/hour.

The modular architecture of the Colorado 1630 allows customers to start with the base model, and depending on business needs, choose from a range of additional modules such as FLXfinish, easy-double sided printing or a second media roll. For example, if the printer is installed with one media roll but run lengths are increasing, a second media roll option can be easily added.
Craig Nethercott, Managing Director, Canon Production Printing Oceania, says, “Enabling our customers and partners to expand their application possibilities and grow their business is essential for us.

“In Australia we have seen some of the highest utilisation rates and volumes per machine on a global scale, however, increasingly we’ve seen the demand for a 1.6 m UVgel printer that can serve customers with lower volume requirements.

“We hope that with the introduction of the Colorado 1630, more print service providers can benefit from a highly automated, robust and stable printer with a modular architecture that offers remarkable flexibility at an attractive investment level”, he says.

Further enhancing its efficiency, the precise media handling of the Colorado 1630 ensures near perfect registration for double-sided printing. A ‘print side in’ option also allows customers to print on both the inside and outside of the roll for maximum media versatility. All options can be enabled remotely, without the need for a service visit.

Adding flexibility for a matte or gloss finish to each print, the optional FLXfinish module uses a unique LED curing technique designed to add visual impact to applications such as banners, wall coverings and point of sale materials without the need to change the inks or media. This technology also supports printing on porous substrates, such as uncoated papers and soft signage materials, further expanding new market opportunities.

The new versatile printer offers the same high productivity features, output quality and media versatility as the Colorado 1650. Using the same unique Canon UVgel 460 inks used by the Colorado 1650, the Colorado 1630 produces razor-sharp prints with a wide colour gamut.

Extremely reliable and easy-to-use, this robust workhorse is built for maximum uptime and quick turnarounds. Operating costs are also minimised thanks to the efficiency of the printer, combined with reduced waste consumption.

Users can benefit from uninterrupted production with on-the-fly ink replenishment which, combined with unprecedented automation for features such as nozzle monitoring, printhead maintenance and media feed winding, allows users to avoid unnecessary downtime.

In addition, Canon’s Remote Control app is now available to monitor all Colorado printers. This will allow users to check the printer status remotely, enabling 24/7 unattended printing. The Remote Control app sends alerts to the users’ mobile devices with printer status updates, warnings and errors, offering the reassurance that the printer is running smoothly to meet deadlines.

    May 20 2021

In order to meet constantly changing customer demands, Gallus is launching the "Diamond Core Series" to enhance its Labelfire product offering. From now on, four models of the Gallus Labelfire will be available – concisely and clearly defined – and tailored to the different market requirements. Digital white with high opacity is optionally available for all models.

The heart of each Gallus Labelfire is the digital print unit, the so-called “diamond core," the company states. This Digital Print Unit (DPU) enables high-quality 1200 x 1200 dpi UV inkjet printing with Samba printheads by Fujifilm. Excellent printing results are produced with pinning modules specially adapted for the inks and printheads, as well as the enhanced simulation of the Pantone Plus colour scale. In addition, all models of the Labelfire Diamond Core series convince with their high production speed with up to 70 m/m and the ability to print a variety of substrates.

"With the Gallus Labelfire Diamond Core Series, we offer a suitable range for all types of printers, regardless of their level of experience and scope of requirements," explains Thomas Schweizer, head of business management at Gallus. "In addition, we offer a fully comprehensive service. With buying this machine, all maintenance work is included in the price for the first year of operation and thereafter our customers can choose from three service basic packages with the option of flexible expansion, from the low-cost basic rate to the all-round carefree package."

In four different machine configurations, the Labelfire Diamond Core models are divided up from D1 to D4 in order to acknowledge the market demands.

The models D1 und D2 are the "working horses” of this series. They print on an industrial scale, stable, reliably and quick, direct from roll to roll. Clearly defined, with or without digital white, they are suitable for all printing companies, which have no need for inline finishing. The Labelfire D1 is the 4-colour entry level machine system into the 1200 dpi digital printing and suited for commodity labels with changing small run lengths.

The Labelfire D2 is the alternative with seven colours: CMYK plus gamut extension green, orange and violet for challenging designs like cosmetic and body care products. With the seven colours, the D2 enables up to 94% of the simulated Pantone Plus colour scale.

Whether 4-colour or 7-colour, with or without digital white, Gallus' hybrid technology offers expanded flexibility due to integrated inline finishing and embellishing modules. The Labelfire D3, the UV inkjet press with four colours, (CMYK) and the Labelfire D4 with 7 colours (CMYK GOV) are always equipped with a flexo and a diecutting unit for easy single-pass printing – from file to finished diecut label in one printing pass. In addition, as required, with either a laminating/varnishing module or a cold foil unit, a cost-effective production of finished labels is thus guaranteed even for very small print runs.

    May 20 2021

At Dscoop Edge Fusion 2021, HP Inc. today announced a new wave of innovations for HP Indigo digital printing, supporting momentum, growth and digital transformation.

Print service providers (PSPs) worldwide continue to adopt HP Indigo digital printing, with more than 125 HP Indigo presses already installed to date from the new technology portfolio announced in March 2020.

“Despite the challenges of the past year, Indigo customers have continued to lead the transformation of the graphic arts industry. Our R&D labs continue to deliver on our promise, releasing new capabilities, products and solutions to support the growth of our customers,” said Haim Levit, HP Indigo vice president and general manager, in a keynote address to Dscoop Fusion, a global gathering of HP Graphic Arts print service providers and solution partners with over 8000 members.

    Transformation in commercial printing
Since its introduction last year, HP Indigo’s new commercial portfolio gained significant momentum worldwide, including long-term investments in new fleets by Cimpress and Shutterfly. The portfolio empowers commercial printers to continue expanding the digital transformation in the market. The HP Indigo 100K Digital Press – the most productive digital B2 press in the market3 – is leading this trend with more than 30 units already installed, enabling commercial printers to shift greater volumes from offset to digital.

To drive digital expansion in commercial print even further, today HP Indigo announced a new set of features, expanding the capabilities of its drupa portfolio:

    • The new Automatic Alert Agent 2.0 for HP Indigo Series 4 presses (HP Indigo 12000 and 15K). This inline inspection system scans every printed sheet and compares it to its digital reference, automatically identifying print defects. AAA 2.0 now automatically diverts defective sheets to scrap and reprints them, all in real time with no human intervention, and no interruption to production. The system leverages advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, increasing accuracy and speed, to provide productivity and profitability for PSPs.
    • Expansion of HD printing capabilities, with the new Fine Line RIP. This new RIP and press computing infrastructure deliver superior capabilities for small solid text and fine lines, producing the sharpest Kanji fonts and complex security patterns.
    • New capabilities on the HP Indigo 100K, including Automatic Pallet Replacement (APR), enabling continuous print with non-stop stacking, allowing PSPs to achieve even higher productivity levels for this platform.
    • Introduction of the new HP Indigo 6P Digital Press, a narrow-web press dedicated for photo and publishing applications. This press expands the capabilities of the Indigo 6800p with a series of innovations for productivity and versatility, including a larger, 320x980mm image area and faster RIP.
    • HP Indigo Certified Pre-Owned Digital Presses, offering a new opportunity to acquire HP Indigo presses, including B2 format presses, at significant capital expenditure (capex) savings.
    • Value packs and options available for HP Indigo commercial customers, including the HP Indigo 15K value pack for the HP Indigo 12000 press, expanding high-value application capabilities. In addition, options to extend the capabilities of commercial Series 3 presses, including the availability of a 5th colour station for the HP Indigo 7eco Digital Press Hypergrowth in HP Indigo labels and packaging
    • Label and packaging converters operating HP Indigo digital presses are continuing to outgrow the market, driven by trends such as SKU proliferation, and the ability to optimise supply chains with on-demand printing and fast turnaround. In flexible packaging, in particular, worldwide HP Indigo production has experienced hypergrowth in the past year of more than 50%4, with folding cartons and labels customers also enjoying strong double-digit growth.

To support this growth momentum, HP Indigo today announced commercial availability of additional products and capabilities in its 2020 portfolio for labels and packaging production. Value packs and options are also available for HP Indigo 20000, 30000 and 6000 series users, allowing them to protect their investments and enjoy new capabilities on their presses.

Commercial availability of the HP Indigo 35K for folding cartons
The HP Indigo 35K Digital Press, the new flagship press for high-value folding carton production built on the market-proven HP Indigo 30000, is now commercially available. The new press provides premium colour and print quality now with 40% overall higher productivity5 thanks to faster job changeover, colour accuracy with Spot Master, and a more robust paper path from the feeder to the coater. Additional features include:

    • New HD printing with 1600 dpi for enhanced print quality.
    • New HP Indigo ElectroInk Premium White for higher opacity.
    • New ElectroInk Invisible Yellow, track-and-trace solutions and security elements for multi-layered brand protection applications on one press, in one pass.
    • A new Tresu iCoat coater integrated for inline production on the HP Indigo 35K

Great Little Box Company of Canada has installed the first unit of the commercially released HP Indigo 35K Digital Press at its site near Vancouver. “We are continually investing in the latest technologies to bring the latest and greatest to our customers. The Indigo solution will deliver production flexibility with offset matching quality – plus the bonus of digitally printing proofs to confirm print quality with customers,” said Brad Tindall, president, GLBC.

Spot Master released for HP Indigo 25K and HP Indigo 35K
In addition, to support productivity in digitally printed packaging, HP announced the release of HP Indigo’s breakthrough Spot Master colour automation technology, the industry’s fastest time to colour.

Spot Master uses a new patented algorithm for fast and accurate colour matching, enabling converters to reach brand colours within 5 minutes, with an accuracy of less than 2 delta E, and less than 3 meters of waste. As a result, Spot Master delivers consistent, uniform colour across the entire print frame and each label or package looks the same no matter when or where it is printed.

Spot Master is now available on both the HP Indigo 25K and 35K, and will be available for the HP Indigo 6K later this year.

Creating the Digital Label Factory of the Future

Throughout the past year, label customers have been increasingly printing longer runs and multi-SKU label and shrink sleeves jobs on their Indigo presses, with Indigo 8000 print volume growing by over 30%. To support the transformation of label converters from an “analog first” mindset – with the burden of slow delivery, high labor costs, higher waste, tooling, ink mixing and more – to a digital “Indigo first” mindset, HP Indigo continues to ramp up the development of the upcoming HP Indigo V12 Digital Press. The HP Indigo V12 Digital Press, a narrow-web label press, is the first HP Indigo press built on next-generation HP Indigo LEPX architecture. It provides Indigo’s renowned quality and versatility at significantly higher speeds, supporting the needs for faster delivery, growing SKUs per job, waste, and labor reduction.

HP Indigo Secure opens new opportunities for digital security printing

HP today also announced HP Indigo Secure, a new suite of never-before-seen security and brand protection solutions, to help security printers and print service providers protect their customers from counterfeiters and other product threats. HP Indigo Secure is a set of solutions including hardware, software, media, and inks for security printing and brand protection, based on proprietary HP Indigo LEP technology and industry-leading partner solutions.

HP Indigo 6K Secure Press is HP Indigo’s first secure digital press designed especially for the security printing market. The press is a one-pass, end-to-end security printing solution featuring multiple security layers in collaboration with Jura JSP. The press is available for certified security printers.

New HP PrintOS applications boost production efficiency

HP PrintOS helps customers to get the most out of their presses, simplify and automate production, and innovate and grow. More than 4500 users use the cloud-based PrintOS applications daily to address every aspect of their production, anywhere and anytime. The usage of PrintOS was significantly increased during 2020, with 25% increase in production monitoring, 32% growth in cloud-created VDP and 230% growth in orders managed by PrintOS Site Flow.

    • Today HP announced several new solutions that further improve production efficiency:

    May 18 2021

Digital inkjet roll-to-roll UV LED printers from Electronics For Imaging, Inc. continue to deliver innovations for superwide-format graphics production printing, and they have now achieved an important certification for the quality and durability of prints used for décor applications. EFI roll-to-roll UV LED printers have earned a Type II certification for wallcoverings based on The Wallcovering Association W-101 and ASTM F793 standards.

Wallcoverings submitted to gain the certification were printed and tested on the 20 oz. DreamScape line of wallcovering base material from Rockaway, N.J-based Roysons. The Type II certification is an indicator for quality, safety and durability of wallcoverings and, unlike other Type II certifications for digital inkjet printers, EFI’s new certification covers wallcoverings produced without lamination or coating.

“These certifications should assure print service providers that the product they can produce meets all of the critical regulatory aspects of a true commercial wallcovering,” said Roy Ritchie, Jr., president of DreamScape. “In addition, EFI customers who print on DreamScape base wallcoverings can enjoy increased efficiency and productivity, since they do not require the additional step of coating or lamination to reach this level of durability. DreamScape has worked closely with EFI for several years and it is easy to recommend their advanced and versatile roll-to-roll machines.”

EFI’s new Type II certification applies to EFI’s extensive portfolio of UV LED roll-to-roll printers – including the EFI Pro 32r+, and VUTEk 3r+/5r+, D3r/D5r, and new Q3r/Q5r printers. The wallcoverings were tested for durability and tear resistance; scrubbability and washability; colour fastness; Class A fire retardancy and safety; and more.

Along with the Type II certification, EFI roll-to-roll digital UV LED printers also received the Class A fire rating according to The Wallcovering Association’s evaluation and ASTM E84.

“There has been a rise in popularity for wallcoverings and interior décor applications these last years, which for us is an exciting trend as we offer a wide range of products for that growing market with our roll-to-roll UV LED printers,” said Hanan Yosefi, vice president, EFI Inkjet Israel. “This certification proves once again EFI’s approach to delivering the best to the market – giving its customers the ability to produce a wide range of challenging applications with the highest print quality at the lowest cost of production.”

The Type II designation and existing UL GREENGUARD Gold certifications for select inks make EFI roll-to-roll solutions ideal for wallcoverings, décor and other indoor applications. These certifications complement each other and provide a complete picture of certification covering the performance, safety and durability of indoor applications.

EFI offers a wide range of roll-to-roll printers, available for customers at the lower-, mid- and higher-volume end of the signage and display graphics market. EFI roll-to-roll printers can deliver up to nine colors, feature a true resolution of up to 1,200 dots per inch and EFI UltraDrop™ Technology with native 7-picoliter printheads with multi-drop addressability for high-definition image quality with outstanding smoothness in shadows, gradients and transitions, as well as precise and sharp size text. The line-up of EFI roll-to-roll printers covers a broad range of production needs, with the most productive solution in the portfolio, the EFI VUTEk Q5r, capable of printing up to 7,233 square feet (672 square meters) per hour.

The roll-to-roll printers’ UV LED curing ensures not only cost savings, but also a more environmentally friendly printing solution, consuming less energy and enabling the use of thinner, lower cost substrates. The printers also feature EFI’s “Power Tool” options for advanced productivity and capabilities, including in-line quality inspection, in-line slitting and cutting, roll and tape collection, auto-calibration, automated backlit printing, automated blockout printing and much more.

Konica Minolta is proud to announce it has received a Buyers Lab (BLI) 2021 PRO Award from Keypoint Intelligence, the world’s leading independent evaluator of document imaging hardware, software, and services.

Granted annually, these awards acknowledge the products that gave the best performances in production field testing over the previous year. Konica Minolta’s AccurioPress C14000 took top honours in the Outstanding High-Volume CMYK Production Device High-Volume Category and was identified as a trailblazer in the digital production marketplace.

David Sweetnam, director of EMEA/Asia Research & Lab Services, Keypoint Intelligence, said, “Konica Minolta’s innovative IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Optimiser has impressed us since its launch, allowing for quick, best practice colour setup and media-registration profiling, with inline checking and adjustment tolerances controllable by the operator. This technology helped the device deliver an outstanding performance over our production-length tests where, over 67,000 clicks, the device never drifted above DeltaE00 3.4, nor did it exhibit an image-registration shift of more than 0.3 mm.”

Another key technology innovation noted by Keypoint Intelligence that separates the Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14000 from its peers is the new TU-510 Versatile Trimmer Unit. This inline, four-edge trimmer and creaser allows full-bleed finishing support for banners, booklets, direct mail, and a dedicated business card cutting option.

Sue Threlfo, general manager, production and industrial print, Konica Minolta Australia, said, “Konica Minolta is pleased have made such a successful entry into the high-volume toner printing segment with the C14000 Series, which has now been affirmed by this honour from Keypoint Intelligence. The IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Optimiser option is a key differentiator in the market and helps our customers take colour consistency and registration accuracy to the next level.”

The C14000 Series has won multiple awards since its launch in late 2019, including the “Good Design Award 2020” from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, the “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021”, and most recently, the iF DESIGN AWARD 2021 from the Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, the world’s oldest independent design forum. In addition, earlier this year, both the AccurioPress C14000 and C12000 achieved two Idealliance® certifications: the Digital Electrophotographic Press Certification; and ISO/PAS 15339 System Certification.
